A FINE ART PHOTOGRAVURE OF “EARTHSET” FROM THE ARTEMIS II MISSION

In 2026, the Artemis II mission returned mankind to deep space for the first time in half a century. It soon began relaying extraordinary images. We have astronaut Christina Koch, the first woman to leave low Earth orbit, to thank for “Earthset.” Among the most striking photographs ever taken, it shows a tiny earth setting behind the horizon of the far side of the moon.

Three years ago, I celebrated the milestone of the James Webb telescope with a four-toned letterpress print of the “Pillars of Creation” image. Today, I’m excited to celebrate the occasion of another great milestone in space exploration. I’ve teamed up with photographer and gravure artist Zach Proffitt to produce a limited edition of “Earthset”. This is, so far as we can tell, the first time that an image from the Artemis II mission has been reproduced by hand.

Each gravure is meticulously inked, wiped, and pulled on dampened paper using an etching press. Without sacrificing detail, this hand-printing conveys a personality and richness that digital reproduction cannot.

Zach and I are excited to present two states featuring the same image. He pulled the larger state. I pulled the smaller state. Different printers, different presses, using different inks, different water, in different air. At a glance, it’s the same piece. But close inspection reveals a world of subtle difference. It’s a fascinating study in contrasts and in printing itself.

Framing: We are offering gallery framing for sophisticated museum quality. Collectors who reserve a framed print will be contacted for their choice of acorn hardwood, walnut hardwood, polished brass, or black metal.

Nb. Because these prints are so large, they cannot be bundled with other No Reply editions. Selecting “Hold” at checkout means that your print will be held, but not automatically bundled in a future shipment. Thanks for understanding!
